President Obama
Feb 14th, 2008 by indigo-daisy
I have followed many presidential campaigns throughout the years, and never has a candidate so inspired me like Barack Obama.
I sat and listened to Barack speak for the first time on Tuesday as he addressed 18,000 cheering supporters in Madison Wisconsin. The audience was electric and Obama had them on fire. One could literally feel the momentum pass beyond the stadium and transpose itself to my own living room as I found myself cheering while hearing words of hope, of unity and of change to a new direction.
“That is our calling in this campaign.” He said “To reaffirm that fundamental belief – I am my brother’s keeper, I am my sister’s keeper – that makes us one people, and one nation. It’s time to stand up and reach for what’s possible, because together, people who love their country can change it.”
It will not be an easy task for the next president to step in and fix all that has gone wrong. But I tell you one thing, that what the American people need more now than anything is unity. We are a country divided, and my soul longs for us to be united again, where we are all working together towards the same things.
I was then pointed to another speech Obama gave at Dr. Kings Church the day before the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. It was this speech that had me sold. There is no doubt that this man can and will inspire change, and I have a new hope that change is on the horizon.

I concur. I have considered McCain and while he is a billion times better than Bush (but then so is the weed in my garden) but his side of politics just doesn’t ring my bell. I have considered Hillary but again, and I don’t care what she says, she is running on a default ticket with Bill and while I think he was incredible President, they have had their chance. So I come to Obama. This is not a default choice. I really think this guy is the best thing going for the US on so many levels. If I had a vote, he would definitely get it. If I could organize for all of those not voting to funnel their ’spares’ to me, I would fill out ballots until my wrist stopped moving.
The US (like Australia for that matter) has many problems - bankruptcy and a very negative foreign image being just two of them - Obama is the only possibility of getting out of either…
Keep envisioning it Mountaingirl. I think if we can see it in our minds, we can make it happen. To me he is the only hope for change and the only one that can right the image of America to the world.
Oh no! Hillary PLEASE!
OK so I’m not American and so have no relevant comment… but still…
HILLARY FOR PRESIDENT… YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!
;->…
haha¬!
I have to admit that I do admire Hillary and appreciate all that she has done for the health care system thus far, however after hearing Obama speak, he won me over. But if Hillary makes it, she has my full support.
I like Hillary, but must admit I have never heard Obama speak until now nor followed him…I strongly agree with your point Deborah that US, needs unity..I dont understand your system of politics..it seems to go on and on…the money used to fund these elections must be an incredible amount…
I will watch him more closely now, and go off and learn some more… so thank you for the vid, he is indeed a competent orrator…he seems so young, why do we have geriatric politicians is beyond me, Australia has had its fair share….Could the US deal with a black president, I dont know what the average person thinks there… We have some wonderful Aboriginal people here but I can’t envisage a day when one is Prime Minister…too many old hurts, racism and predujice in people that they just wont let go or..
Thank you for the post Indigo…I learnt alot
Glad you enjoyed it Abby, we’ll see how this all plays out later in the year. Whatever happens it has to be better than what we have now.
