When I first planted them the tiny little spines were like flying daggers and I got them everywhere, hands, fingers, arms, feet , toes (I was wearing sandals). It took me over an hour with a tweezers to get them all out. I am very careful now when I go near them. Thanks for the Ahhhhs and thankfully no more OOooohs. =)
Have had a few experiences with “Prickly Pear” which is a noxious weed in Australia - its introduction, and the way that it took over the country cost a lot in lost income and labour till the introduction of the cactoblastus beetle. By your photo, the spines would be similar - nearly invisible but cause lots of pain !!!
Are the leaves (if that’s wat they are called on a cactus) shaped like rabbit ears? I like the looks of them, but I’m skittish about thorny things after a bad encounter with a firethorn.
It does look fuzzy… guess that’s the cactus’ way of being a wolf in sheeps clothing, in the plant world.
I love cactus (cacti?), I guess mainly because they’re so easy to care for. But this one that I’ve got sitting on my desk, that my boss gave me for Secretaties Day, I hate with a passion, because I’ve nearly poked myself in the eye with it several times. Yet I can’t get the thing to just die, it lives on!!
I will have to google prickly pear Robert. Thank you Abby. To COtW yes it does have branches that look like bunny ears. Cactus are fairly resilient Pita, which is one reason why I chose to plant it. I don’t have a natural green thumb like you seem to have with your beautiful garden
The prickles on your bunny ear cactus look soft and not prickly! Lots of Ahhhhs and I hope not “OOooohs?”
