It was the summer I met my husband who is love of my life. You could say it was the year I fell in love, but who really knows about love at nineteen.
I took a charter flight from Minneapolis to London and a train from London to Vienna all by myself (one week after turning 19) to meet up and do some traveling with my girl friend Nancy who was a teacher in the American International School in Vienna, Austria.
Looking back, I am amazed I got to where I needed to go. Silly me didn’t pay attention in Geography and I thought Sweden and Switzerland were one in the same as well as Austria and Australia. (Good thing I wasn’t going to Australia, that would have required another boat).
Good lord, I wasn’t even going to get off the train when we reached the English Channel, I only moved when I was the last one on board because it didn’t seem to be going anywhere. I followed everyone onto a Ferry Boat and when we reached the other side thank god someone recognized my ticket and validated that I was at least going in the right direction.
When I finally reached Nancy, she was able to take care of me until my return trip home a month later.
My goal was to travel to Germany and Sweden, however Nancy talked me into going to Italy. My husband had a Visa in his passport to go to Germany, and at the airport a friend of his talked him into going to Italy. Was it fate? I will always believe that it was.
Every time I hear the song below it takes me back to that summer. You could hear the whimsical music dancing out of the coffee shops, onto the canvas roofs of the market stands and on into the lively discos at night. I close my eyes and I remember…

Now THAT is a summer to remember! Incredible memory just layed over another incredible memory - I just love the way you write Indigo. And the photo is one to die for! Isn’t that just the perfect shot capturing the love, the feeling - I can almost hear the water splashing in the fountaing and the nearby traffic as it goes by.
aahhhhh songs do that to me too.

What a lovely photo
I believe in synchronicity or meaningful coincidence so you never know eh! Some things are just meant to be.
How awesome!
Love the love-story. Talk about “meant to be”!
And don’t feel bad, it took me several years to realize that Austria wasn’t just a nickname for Australia. **blush**
Thanks Abbey, I do believe it is fate.
Now you know why I love Italy too Limoncello
