This was taken on my one and only trip to Baghdad the year before the first Desert Storm. It may seem like a strange picture to post as we all look like we are melting in the heat, but that is what I love most about the picture.
The weather was dry, hot and the car had no air conditioning. My husbands family insisted on making sure they took me around to see the sights. They had a small car, so the children would have to take turns coming with us. In this picture we had just visited Babylon which was about a 2 hour drive from Baghdad.
Having been to my husbands country and meeting his family, allowed me to better understand what he was going through when the war, or I should say wars took place.
The little girl sitting next to me is my niece who will soon be coming to stay with us, and the little boy in the red shirt is my oldest son (who blends right in) and if you haven’t guessed by now, I (who didn’t blend as well) am the one on the end with the blue skirt =)

I love this picture, but love even more your memories of that time. It terrifies me that things are divided into before the wars and now, but also gives me hope, that there may be a time ‘after the wars’ lets hope and pray so xo
Aaaaah, I have dreamed so for the time ‘after the wars’….and continue to hope and pray.
I also love it for the same reason as Kyles … but not as much as you!
