I lived in Florence, Italy for about a year before marrying my husband. During my stay, I read the book "The Agony and the Ecstasy" by Irving Stone about the life of Michelangelo Buonararroti. What an amazing book to have read while actually in the city of Florence. I would read a chapter, then rush of to a museum, basilica or some part in the city to see the actual painting, sculpture or building in which Irving J'ai vécu à Florence, Italie pendant environ un an avant de se marier mon mari. Au cours de mon séjour, j'ai lu le livre "L'agonie et l'extase" par Irving Stone sur la vie de Michel-Ange Buonararroti. Quel incroyable livre d'avoir lu tout en en la ville de Florence. Je voudrais lire un chapitre, puis de se précipiter à un musée, une basilique ou une partie de la ville pour voir la peinture, la sculpture ou de bâtiment dans lequel Irving 
Stone so eloquently described. Stone décrit avec tant d'éloquence.
It was the time when I fell in love with the works of Michelangelo, my favorite being his Pieta. To give you an idea what a genius Michelangelo was, he was only 21 or 22 years old when he began this sculpture and it took him only 2 years to complete. Il a été le moment où je suis tombé en amour avec les oeuvres de Michel-Ange, ma préférée étant sa Pieta. Pour vous donner une idée de ce que le génie a été de Michel-Ange, il avait seulement 21 ou 22 ans quand il a commencé cette sculpture et il lui a fallu seulement 2 ans à compléter.
The thing I love about sculpture is that it is not a medium where you add to, so you can not mold and create what you envision. It is a medium where you take from and can not put back, so what you envision has to be perfect before you start. La chose que j'ai l'amour sur la sculpture, c'est que ce n'est pas un média où vous ajouter, vous ne pouvez donc pas de moisissure et de créer ce que vous envisagez. Il est un média où vous prenez et ne peut pas remettre, pour ce que vous envisagez doit être parfait avant de commencer.
The original Pieta is displayed in La Pieta d'origine est affiché dans St. Peter’s Basilica La basilique Saint-Pierre in dans Vatican City Cité du Vatican , and I did have a chance to go see it on a brief visit to Rome. Sadly, it now sits behind bullet proof glass as it was attack by a mentally disturbed man with a hammer in 1972 where he took 12 blows to this most revered piece of beauty. It was then painstakingly restored and now sits protected in its own chapel. , Et j'ai eu une chance d'aller voir sur une brève visite à Rome. Malheureusement, il se situe maintenant derrière Bullet Proof verre comme il a été attaque par un homme souffrant de troubles mentaux avec un marteau en 1972 où il a pris 12 coups à la plus vénérée morceau de la beauté. Il a ensuite été soigneusement restauré et protégé se situe maintenant dans sa propre chapelle.
This was the only piece in which Michelangelo actually carved his signature upon. Il s'agit de la seule pièce dans laquelle Michel-Ange en fait taillé à sa signature. You can see his inscription on the band that crosses Mary’s chest. It is said that he had overheard people arguing over who the creator was and he didn’t want another to take credit for his work. I imagine that it was his youthful pride that came into play as later he felt bad for his rash actions and vowed to never again sign another piece. J'imagine que c'est son jeune fierté qui est en jeu que plus tard, il a estimé pour sa mauvaise éruption actions et a juré de ne plus jamais signer un autre morceau.
I have a small replica that sits in my living room and one day several years back, my neighbor who was dying from melanoma came over for a visit and saw it. He asked if he could hold it for awhile and I let him. J'ai une petite réplique qui se trouve dans mon salon et un jour plusieurs années, mon voisin qui était en train de mourir de mélanome sont venus pour une visite et il a vu. Il a demandé s'il pourrait tenir pendant un certain temps et je lui laisser. I think in some small way he found comfort through it. It is truly a piece of beauty and there is something so pure about it with Mary looking so youthful and Jesus appearing so peaceful. Je pense que dans certains petits manière dont il a trouvé le réconfort à travers elle. C'est vraiment un morceau de la beauté et il ya quelque chose de si pur à ce sujet avec Marie, la recherche de façon jeune et Jésus apparaissant de façon pacifique. The scene is not one of a tragic event really, it is more of an acceptance of how it is, yet what a pity it had to be. La scène n'est pas celle d'un événement tragique vraiment, il est plus d'une acceptation de la façon dont il est, mais quel dommage qu'il a à être.
I highly recommend the book "The Agony and the Ecstasy" by Irving Stone. And if you ever have the chance to visit Forence or Rome, I recommend you read it again. Je recommande vivement le livre "L'agonie et l'extase" par Irving Stone. Et si vous avez la chance de visiter Rome ou Forence, je vous recommande de lire à nouveau.

Thank you Vicki. Merci Vicki. It is sad that when school need to start cutting programs for budget reasons, usually the first thing to go is the arts. Il est triste de constater que lorsque l'école nécessité de commencer à réduire programs, pour des raisons budgétaires, généralement la première chose à faire est le domaine des arts. Creativity, and the appreciation thereof is so important to the well being of our youth as it is a way to both express themselves and to learn from the talent of other. So many youth fall into the realms of commercialism which ultimately results in depression as it doesn’t have anything to offer their mind, whereas the arts have the ability to cultivate the spirit. Ainsi, de nombreux jeunes tombent dans le domaine de la commercialization des résultats qui en fin de compte dans la dépression car il n'a rien à offrir à leur esprit, alors que les arts ont la capacité de cultiver l'esprit.
I couldn’t mold a jell-o, much less anything else. Je ne pouvais pas un moule Jell-O, et encore moins quelque chose d'autre. The detail is amazing, and there’s no do-overs if you mess-up on such piece. Le détail est incroyable, et il n'y a pas de faire-overs si vous mess-up sur cette pièce. I can’t imagine the skill, patience and focus it must take to create such a work of art. Je ne peux pas imaginer l'habileté, la patience et de se concentrer, il doit prendre pour créer une telle oeuvre d'art.
Of all the field trips we took back in my school days, I can honestly say that none of them were to anything “artsy”, and the science/history museum is the only museum I can recall going to. De tous les déplacements sur le terrain, nous avons pris dans mon école, je peux honnêtement dire qu'aucun d'entre eux ont été à quoi que ce soit "artistique", et de la science et l'histoire du musée est le seul musée je peux aller à rappeler.
You’re right, it is sad when the schools keep funding sports, yet choose to cut spending on arts and such. Vous avez raison, il est triste lorsque le financement des écoles de sport garder, encore choisir de réduire les dépenses sur les arts et autres.
I love Michelangelo. I love Michel-Ange. With artists, their is Michelangelo, then theirs everyone else. Avec des artistes, leur est Michel-Ange, puis tout le monde le leur. He had a truly mighty, energetic spirit that would not cease. Il a eu une très puissant, énergique esprit qui ne cessera pas. The Last Judgement is indescribable.
